Tom Landry Scholarship
Interstate Batteries is a proud sponsor of the Tom Landry Scholarship program in the Dallas area, and this year we’re very happy to present a scholarship to Morgan Stringer of Highland Park High School.
Morgan is an amazing young man, with many achievements already in his life, including:
- Cornerstone Scholar Athlete
- Team Captain, Varsity Football
- Varsity Track
- President of his chapter, Fellowship of Christian Athletes
- Awards in Robotics, Astronomy and Chemistry
- Science National Honor Society
- Member of the Highland Park honor roll
Perhaps best of all, Morgan served more than 100 hours of community service. One of Morgan’s teachers said, "His discipline, integrity, work ethic, honesty and enthusiasm are the traits that have made Morgan a leader both on the field of play and among his peers."
Interstate Batteries is pleased to support this scholarship program and promising students like Morgan who have shown Landry-like qualities.
About the scholarship program
The Tom Landry Classic and Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of Tom Landry, celebrate the high quality of DFW Metroplex high school football, and to recognize and reward the outstanding off-the-field accomplishments of the student-athletes who participate in it.
The event places its primary emphasis on the Landry-like qualities of academics, leadership and community service. On behalf of its Corporate Partners, the Tom Landry Classic has awarded $400,000 in college scholarship assistance. Each applicant is required to show a strong commitment to academics, volunteer a minimum of 40 hours toward community service, and write an essay on Tom Landry’s contributions away from the football field. The essay helps to ensure that each applicant knows the depth of Tom Landry’s commitment to society, which greatly assists the goal of passing on his wonderful legacy.
Although this event is associated with outstanding play on the football field, the primary goal will always be to assist in developing sound values in the leaders of tomorrow.
