Interstate Batteries Fundraising partners with special needs cheer squad
Dallas Area Team Raising Funds For Trip To National Competition
DALLAS (Oct. 25, 2010) — Interstate Batteries and Cheer Athletics Superkatz, a special needs cheer team, are a natural fit. Both have demonstrated outrageous dependability in what they do!
Cheer Athletics Superkatz, based in Garland, Texas, is comprised of 20-30 mentally and/or physically disabled kids who love to cheer. The squad took to the Cheer Athletics gym for the first time in August of 2009. Now, the team is trying to raise the needed funds to go to the national competition in January in Houston.
“We had been looking for some sort of new change for the gym,” said Garland Cheer Athletics owner Brad Habermel. “Adding a special needs division has been one of the most life changing experiences for the workers, staff, and coaches at the gym. These kids love coming here every week, and we see it on their faces.”
Interstate Batteries Fundraising is helping the Superkatz by powering the fundraising program for the team, which features squad members selling a wide variety of batteries to fit as many as 25 different battery-powered applications in an average home. This includes batteries for video game controllers, television remote controls, calculators, laptop computers, toys, flashlights, fire detectors. Interstate is also providing free packing and shipping of products.
“Interstate Batteries has long had a corporate culture focused on treating business associates with respect, fairness, and integrity,” said Interstate Batteries Fundraising director Leslie Lawrence. “The Superkatz kids are a wonderful inspiration and model of working hard and striving toward excellence. Interstate is proud to be part of this amazing team.”
During the past year, Superkatz team members have learned cheerleading jumps, motions and stunts while bonding with other team members, coaches, and helpers from other teams in the gym. The squad hopes to supercharge their performance at the Cheer America Individual/Small Group Nationals on January 28-30 at Reliant Park in Houston.
