Battery Beats the Decade
Every summer, classic car buff Harry Lockhart hops into his 1960 Chevrolet Biscayne and turns the key to start a drive across America. And for 12 years, the Corvette 327 engine inside roars to life reliably, thanks to an Interstate® battery he bought in Sioux Falls, S.D. – back in 1999.
“It’s a great battery,” Lockhart said. “I bet you I could drive it a block on the battery alone, using the starter.”
The car starts so reliably, Lockhart didn’t realize how old its battery was. It was only when Lockhart’s cousin John Lockhart visited from Wasilla, Alaska, that he realized the battery still ran after 12 years. When John learned how long the battery ran in the Biscayne, he reached for the phone to call Interstate Batteries.
Harry, a motorcycle mechanic, owns a used Harley shop, Harry’s Used Harleys. He said his Interstate has never needed a jump, and he only added water to it once. For the most part, he said he uses his Chevy for summer road trips.
Despite loving his classic cars, Harry ran out of storage for the Biscayne and decided to put it on the market. With an asking price of $16,000, the Chevy has a custom interior, a strong engine and a battery that Lockhart said “works like new.”
