Edwards Struggles in Denver; Injuries Hamper JGRMX
Team Interstate Racing Wrap-up for July 21-22, 2012:
Team Interstate’s Mike Edwards grabbed the No. 2 qualifying position at Bandimere Speedway this weekend, but a slow run in the second elimination round ended his quest for the Wally early.
“We made some quality runs in qualifying, and to grab the No. 2 spot was a real accomplishment for my team because we did not come test on the mountain and were able to run close to and with those that did,” Edwards said.
Edwards opened competition in his Penhall/K&N/Interstate Batteries® Pontiac against Steve Kalkowski. Edwards easily marched to victory when Kalkowski had problems.
In the Round of Eight, Edwards’ day came to an end when he slowed to a 6.999, his slowest run of the weekend, and could only watch as Vincent Nobile advanced.
“For some reason on Sunday we did not make the right changes to continue to be one of the faster cars,” Edwards said. “It is frustrating that we did not make a better run in the second round. We will learn from it and move on to Sonoma.”
After 13 events, Edwards sits fourth in points, a little less than 200 out of first place, with only five races remaining to make the Countdown to Championship playoff.

Motocross: JGRMX Continues to Battle Injuries
JGRMX/Team Interstate’s Davi Millsaps and Kyle Regal both struggled with injuries during this weekend’s motocross round at Washougal Motocross Park in Washougal, Wash. Millsaps, who has missed the last few weeks with an ankle injury, decided to rest his foot again and take advantage of the upcoming two-week break in the series.
Regal injured his back in a crash last week in Millville, Minn., and was still feeling the effects. He qualified for the races but was unable to complete the first round because of the pain.
NASCAR: Cup Takes Week Off
The NASCAR Sprint Cup series took the weekend off, but there was still some action on the track. In Sunday’s Nationwide Series race at Chicago, Team Interstate’s Ryan Truex came home 10th, and Brian Scott finished 11th.
Next week: NASCAR visits the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and NHRA drag racing goes to Sonoma, Calif.
