Team Interstate Scores Three Top 10s in Charlotte
Team Interstate found the best mix of power and fuel mileage to score three top-10 finishes in Charlotte Saturday. Denny Hamlin led the team by finishing second, while Kyle Busch earned fifth and Joey Logano finished ninth.
Hamlin, Team Interstate’s representative in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship, proved early in the race that he had one of the fastest cars on the track. After starting from the ninth position, he immediately drove up into the top five and stayed at or near the front for most of night. Hamlin and the No. 11 team stretched their fuel run toward the end of the race to stay on the track while others had to make a last pit stop to get to the finish. That strategy paid off, as Hamlin finished in second place behind race winner Clint Bowyer.
Busch also demonstrated that he had one of the fastest cars and, like Hamlin, remained in the top five for most of the night. As the race neared the end, he held the second spot before having to pit for a final splash of fuel with about 30 laps to go.
After starting in the 12th position, Logano quietly worked his way into the top 10, following a similar fuel strategy to Busch’s. Like Busch, he had to pit for a splash of fuel with about 20 laps to go, but he still managed to finish strong over the final laps.
With The Chase at its midpoint, Hamlin is third in the current point standings, just eight points out of second-place Jimmie Johnson and 15 points behind leader Brad Keselowski.
Logano Wins Eighth Nationwide Race
Logano’s impressive Nationwide Series season continued as he scored his eighth win of the year at Charlotte on Friday night. Logano started in the third position and stayed in the top five for most of the night. After the final round of pit stops, Logano pulled out to a commanding 2.76-second lead to seal the victory.
The win was Logano’s first in nine career NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at Charlotte. His eight wins this season have come in just 18 starts, which results in an amazing 44% winning percentage.
