Team Interstate: Kenseth Wins at Kentucky
Kenseth scored his 28th career Sprint Cup Series victory, his fourth of the season and first at Kentucky. Busch patiently rallied from a lap 42 spin to finish fifth.
“I just have to thank the Lord for putting me here,” Kenseth said in Victory Lane. “This is such a great team and great opportunity for me. It’s just been an unbelievable season and year of my life, honestly.”
Busch welcomed his eighth top-five finish of the season, although he wished for even better.
“We had our work cut out for us today, that’s for sure, spinning out early and then coming back through and working hard,” he said. “All things considered, it was a good day for us.”
Unfortunately for teammate Denny Hamlin, the day didn’t go as well. Hamlin suffered a blown tire on lap 148 of the 267-lap race. The accident sent him crashing into the wall and ended his race early. He was scored with a 35th-place finish.
Hamlin, who was sidelined earlier in the season with a back injury, complained of a headache after Sunday’s accident and was evaluated at the infield medical center.
“Got my bell rung,” Hamlin said. “We’ll be fine. Any time you get flat up against the wall, you deal with issues and headaches and things like that. But it’s gone away and everything seems to be good now.”
