Team Interstate: Second Verse, Same as the First
The finishing order of the second race in the 2013 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup looked very familiar. Just like at Chicagoland Speedway last week, Team Interstate’s Matt Kenseth and Kyle Busch finished first and second, respectively, in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday.
Kyle chased Matt for the win over the final 43-lap green-flag portion of the race and pulled within a few car lengths with just a few laps remaining. But he ran out of time to get past Matt for the win.
The win was Matt’s series-leading seventh of the season. Kyle’s finish was his 12th top-five and 16th top-10, a sign of remarkable consistency.
“I’ve said it for years, if I could finish second in every single Chase race, I’d take it and win a championship – than to win just one Chase race,” Kyle said. “It’s all about the prize at the end, and I think this team is really focused on that.”
Teammate Denny Hamlin finished 12th.
With eight races remaining before a champion is crowned, the ranking is as follows:
|2||Kyle Busch||2,097 (-14)|
|3||Jimmie Johnson||2,093 (-18)|
|4||Carl Edwards||2,075 (-36)|
|5||Greg Biffle||2,073 (-38)|
|6||Kevin Harvick||2,072 (-39)|
|7||Kurt Busch||2,071 (-40)|
|8||Jeff Gordon||2,069 (-42)|
|9||Ryan Newman||2,064 (-47)|
|10||Clint Bowyer||2,063 (-48)|
|11||Dale Earnhardt Jr.||2,049 (-62)|
|12||Joey Logano||2,042 (-69)|
|13||Kasey Kahne||2,040 (-71)|

NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing: Edwards Suffers Setback
Team Interstate’s Mike Edwards dropped an opening round battle at the AAA Texas Nationals on Sunday, relinquishing the NHRA Pro Stock points lead. Mike’s opening round opponent, Larry Morgan, scored a near-perfect light and held on by less than three-thousandths of a second to pull off the upset.
“We were less than three-thousandths, and this story would have been totally different,” Mike said. “But, those thousandths of a second count in the competitive world of NHRA Pro Stock racing.
“I am disappointed is an understatement. No excuses.We are going to have to keep fighting to gain the points lead back. I am not going to give up.”
Mike sits in third place, trailing leader Jason Line by 36 points.
Other Team Interstate Results
