Team Interstate: Kyle Comes Home 3rd in Texas
Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, finished a solid third in Monday’s rain-postponed Duck commander 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. It was Kyle’s second top-five finish of 2014.
“It was a good afternoon for us with our Interstate Batteries Camry,” said Kyle, who won at Texas last April. “I felt like the second-to-last run I got Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and my guys a little bit behind on adjustments, and we got really, really loose when the sun popped out. It kind of cost us a little bit of track position to the leaders, and then the last stop after that we were really good.
“We were going to finish third, and then of course the yellow comes out and you have to come down and get tires – just way too long out there on tires. I chose four just because I absolutely killed my stuff about three laps prior to that caution coming out, so I knew that was our only chance. Interstate Batteries guys did a great job for me here today – good job there on pit road to get me out front. Good, deserving finish for us here today.”
Kyle qualified a disappointing 29th but moved up through the field quickly, reaching the top-20 by lap 41 and 10th by lap 70. He took the lead by lap 143 and stayed near the front for the rest of the race.
