Team Interstate Advances in Chase
Team Interstate‘s Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth delivered solid performances in Sunday’s AAA 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Dover International Speedway, giving them enough points to advance to the next round of the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Kyle, driving the No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry, started from the second position and stayed in the top 10 for most of the race. the only exception was after a lap 126 pit stop when he overshot his pit stall and lost valuable time. He restarted in 16th place and made it to ninth in just one lap around the 1-mile concrete oval.
Kyle’s Camry was tight for most of the day, Making it difficult to drive, and as the race went on, it only got tighter.
“Our car, especially on the long run, was a ‘10’ tight,” said Kyle after recording his third consecutive top-10 and his 12th top-10 of 2014. “We did what we needed to do today with our Interstate Batteries Camry, but I’m not sure what the problem was on the last couple runs of the race. Dave (Rogers, crew chief) and the guys are going to take the car back to the shop and see if they can figure out if something was wrong. We’ll move on to the next round and hope we can have a better handle on our car next week.”
Matt finished sixth, and Denny finished 12th. Jeff Gordon won the race.
The “Contender” round of the Chase begins this week at Kansas Speedway, with the 12 top drivers all tied at 3,000 points.
