Team Interstate’s Matt Kenseth won Sunday’s rain-delayed Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up to Cancer, capping off what can kindly be described as an eventful day.

The race featured several big wrecks and rain delays of more than five hours. When it finally ended, Matt earned his first victory of the season, while a late-race accident took away a certain top-five finish from Carl Edwards, who finished 24th.

Denny Hamlin suffered neck spasms during the first rain delay and had to be replaced in the car by rookie Erik Jones, who would finish 26th. David Ragan would get caught in a mid-race accident and was left to finish 41st in his Snickers Xtreme/Interstate Batteries Toyota Camry.

One of the more compelling stories was that of Erik, who began the afternoon planning to watch the race from the comfort of his couch. He even planned to take a nap when Joe Gibbs Racing asked him to suit up. Read the behind-the-scenes story here.

Matt’s win essentially clinched his spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship.
