Every Interstate Batteries Route Sales Manager has a favorite route. It may be the scenic drive they admire, a special dealer they enjoy restocking, or a quaint restaurant along the way.

For Route Manager Kevin Dyken, it’s the two-hour Friday journey from the warehouse in Ontario, Canada, to the lakes of Muskoka that’s the highlight of his week.

This time however, Kevin’s favorite route took an unexpected turn.

Interstate Batteries practically reinvented battery testing when we invented the ED-18 battery tester.

Interstate Batteries practically reinvented battery testing when we invented the ED-18 battery tester.

He only had two more stops to complete, both RV dealers with large pre-orders. As he pulled into the first dealer, he noticed one of the mechanics examining the hood of a small SUV. After completing the delivery, he stopped at the front gate to visit the mechanic. There was a nicely dressed lady in her late 60s standing beside her car clearly aggravated by her current situation. After greeting the mechanic, Kevin asked him if the problem was diagnosed.

“I think it’s the battery, but I have no way to test it,” the mechanic replied.

Kevin generously offered his services before proceeding to his last stop.

He went to his truck to retrieve a tester and discovered she did need a new battery. Kevin offered to install a new battery and recycle the old one. He even sold the battery at the dealer discount price since she had already had enough inconvenience for one day.

Within a few minutes, the lady and Kevin were both ready to go on with their day.

Way to save the day, Kevin!

I am not surprised to hear of this story about Kevin Van Dyken. He won RSM "Rookie of the Year" last year. It's things like this that demonstrates the excellence he strives for each and every day. We are proud to have him part of our team. He has since moved to a new position in our team as Business Development Manager and know he will do well with this. "Way to go" Kevin. - Doug - Operations Mgr - IBS Brampton.
