Team Interstate: Kyle in Top 5 Amid Martinsville Drama
All four drivers were involved in incidents over the course of the race, but in the end, Denny finished third and Kyle finished fifth. Carl Edwards finished 14th and two big accidents left Matt Kenseth back in 38th.
This was the first race of the Eliminator Round of 8 for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship. The field will be reduced to just four teams following the next two races at Texas and Phoenix respectively. A final Championship Four will compete for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway Sunday, Nov. 22. By virtue of his win this afternoon, Jeff Gordon is the first to qualify for the final four. Kyle is currently second in points and eight back of the leader while Edwards sits in fifth, 17 points behind.
Denny battled through two pit road speeding penalties and a spin on lap 112. Kyle spun after running through water on the track on lap 172, but quick work by the No. 18 M&M’s Crispy/Interstate Batteries team kept him in contention. Carl battled an ill-handling machine all day and got caught up in Kyle’s accident on lap 172, damaging the nose of his car. And Matt was involved in two large incidents, one involving the 2 and 41 cars, and another involving the 22.
